Thyroid DisordersDisorders of thyroid function are frequently associated with disturbances of menstruation. In thyrotoxicosis, if a change in the menstrual cycle does occur, it almost invariably consists of oligomenorrhea or amenorrhea.119 In the series of Benson and Dailey,120 130 of 221 patients with diffuse toxic goiter had oligomenorrhea or amenorrhea. Ten patients experienced an increase in flow, and 81 had no change in menstrual pattern. It was of interest that amenorrhea seemed to have a relation to exophthalmos. In 18 of 31 patients with hypothyroidism that followed treatment of thyrotoxicosis, menorrhagia or polymenorrhea was present. It is generally agreed . . .
