Abstract
The view that bivalve molluscs are ideally adapted to fulfilling a mode of life in which the processes of feeding and digestion are continuous has long been accepted by most zoologists. An increasing amount of evidence, how ever, is being put forward to suggest that the opposite is true, that is, that bivalves are discontinuous in their feeding and digestive habits. Keywords
