Abstract
THE comparative value of the various hypotensive drugs must be judged in terms not only of their potential benefit but also of their undesirable side effects. This is particularly true when the potent sympatholytic and ganglionic drugs are compared in patients with nonaccelerated forms of hypertensive disease, who are often asymptomatic despite considerable elevation of blood pressure. When the task of evaluation is then compounded by a comparison of two pharmacologically different drugs, for each of which the individual dose must be determined empirically, a quite difficult problem of bioassay arises.
