Abstract
The reaction of tetramethyldiarsine with trifluoroiodomethane gives dimethyltrifluoromethylarsine. Trifluoroiodomethane and iodomethane similarly react with the compounds (CF3)2M—M(CF3)2 to give the compounds (CF3)3M and (CF3)2MCH3 respectively (M = As or P). Trifluoroiodomethane reacts with iododimethylarsine and diiodomethylarsine in the presence of mercury to give dimethyltrifluoromethylarsine and methylbistrifluoromethylarsine respectively. Heptafluoropropyldimethylarsine can be isolated from a similar reaction using heptafluoroiodopropane.
