Abstract
The basal metabolism and the total transformation of energy of an unusually thin subject were recorded (1) when he was on a maintenance diet and (2) when he was being vigorously overfed. It could not be shown that either the basal or the total metabolism was increased by more than the increment due to the specific dynamic action of the additional food. On the other hand, the subject added about 4.5 kgm. to his weight in 15 days when he was being overfed. No support was secured for the "Luxuskonsumption" hypothesis of Grafe. This publication has 2 references indexed in Scilit:
