Abstract
The molecular species responsible for the ultraviolet bands of ``magnesium oxide'' have been shown to be MgOH and MgO. The 3Π states of BeO and MgO have been approximately fixed and are the major contributors to the thermodynamic functions of BeO and MgO gases at high temperatures. In addition to a 1Σ+—1Π transition of MgO other transitions of MgO may lie in the same spectral region. Keywords
