Abstract
The theory of Anderson, Tsao, and Curnutte has been applied to the calculation of self-broadened linewidths of CO2. The setting up of an experimental method using a laser source allowed us to measure systematically the broadening ability of nitrogen upon CO2 lines. The application of Anderson's theory has been extended to this type of interactions. In this study the limits of the determination method of the quadrupole moment have been shown by measuring the linewidths. In an other way, the influence of dispersion forces has been pointed out, if a semi-empirical potential is used.
