Interpretation of emergent star pattern distributions for MeV protons transmitted through single crystals

Abstract
The emergent distributions of protons transmitted through thin single crystals parallel to low index directions display characteristics consistent with the general notions of particle channeling. Certain aspects of these patterns, however, have been used as evidence for the desirability of a wave or diffraction description of the phenomena. In this paper we present detailed energy and intensity measurements of the phenomena in question and show that they can be understood in terms of the classical channeling picture.
