Abstract
The inelastic scattering of fast electrons caused by excitation of atomic electrons is considered, taking account of the Bloch wave nature of the fast electrons within the crystal. It is shown that the interference, or contrast, produced by small-angle inelastic scattering is similar to that produced by elastically scattered and plasmon scattered electrons. The result explains recent electron microscope observations of contrast in crystals obtained by energy analysis techniques. Keywords
