ILEOCOLITIS

Abstract
• Regional iletis may be associated with ulcerative or granulomatous colitis, the diagnosis depending upon the amount of fibrosis and scarring as well as the presence of giant cell systems and epithelioid cells. Ileocolitis is a term used to indicate the presence of the combined forms, whose presenting symptoms are fever, cramps, and diarrhea. Medical treatment should be attempted in all cases, unless there are definite indications for surgical therapy such as recurrent massive hemorrhage, recurrent bouts of intestinal obstruction, or persistent fistulas.
