Abstract
This report deals with the total number of live children born to wives of present age 40-44 yrs., analysing for Protestant and Catholic groups separately by age of wife at marriage, monthly rental value of dwelling, education and birth region of the couple. 18.8% had no children, 23.2% one, 23.6% two, 14.7% three, 8.1% four and 11.7% five or more children. In general, Catholic families were larger in comparable groups but the lowest proportion of childlessness and highest proportion of large families was among Protestant couples listed as "Both South.".
