Abstract

The cleavage into 30 s and 50s units at 55[degree] makes the ribosomes labile toward ribonuclease (RNAse). In the absence of added RNAse the ribosomes or their 30 s or 50 s subunits remain intact up to 62[degree]; at this temperature the RNAse becomes free and effects complete breakdown.
