Channel interference in resonance elastic x-ray scattering

Abstract
Using the one-step, scattering formulation of resonance x-ray emission, the effect of state interference on the angular distribution and polarization of molecularly scattered x-ray photons are explored. It is shown that the polarization dependence of the scattering cross sections for resonance elastic x-ray emission can be used as a crucial tool in assigning symmetries of unoccupied levels.
