Abstract
The cells of 2 strains of E. coli can be quantitatively converted into spherical protoplasts by the action of lysozyme at pH 9. The protoplasts are capable of all the biosyntheses necessary for phage growth. About 10% of them are also capable of reverting to normal rod forms when incubated in an appropriate medium. Keywords
