Abstract
By previous authors biotin has been suggested to occur as a building block of oxalacetic acid carboxylase from chicken liver. We have subjected a partially purified extract to some independent purification procedures. Column electrophoresis showed very different electrophoretic mobilities of oxalacetic acid carboxylase and of protein‐bound biotin. On avidin‐azo‐benzylcellulose too, the enzyme and the vitamin had different chromatographic behaviours. The enzyme is not inhibited by avidin in vitro. These data, and a higher activity/biotin ratio than reported previously, are interpreted as contrary to the above quoted suggestion. This publication has 25 references indexed in Scilit:
