Abstract
This study is mainly concerned with the migration flights of Aelia rostrate in central Turkey, and Eurygaster integriceps in Iran, but mention is made, for comparison, of other species of the same genera in Middle East countries and in Morocco. The author describes observations on the direction of flight in relation to that of the wind, sun and slope of the ground from which the insects take off; it is concluded that the final direction of flight is down-wind in the great majority of cases, once they have risen well clear of the ground. The bearing of this on invasions of cereal crops and on current theories of insect migration is discussed.
