Abstract
A summary of some recent developments in the theory of invariant imbedding is presented. Applications to some simple problems in wave propagation, diffusion theory, and transport theory demonstrate some of the advantages of the new and almost ``mechanistic'' approach. In addition, a slightly different attack is applied to nonlinear difference equations and to the classical phase‐shift problem. Keywords
