A COMPARISON OF THE NORMAL BLOOD PICTURE OF RATS OF TWO DIFFERENT COLONIES REARED UPON DIFFERENT STOCK RATIONS

Abstract
Hb, red blood cells and reticulocytes were determined from birth to maturity in rats of 2 colonies[long dash]42 stock albino rats of the Wistar Institute, reared upon a natural dietary, and 74 albino rats reared upon a modified Steen-bock diet and inbred for 8 yrs. at the Univ. of Pennsylvania. The adult Wistar rats had higher Hb and lower reticulocyte levels. Interesting transitional changes were observed in the bloods of animals from birth to weaning in both colonies.
