Abstract
N. D., with a native flora of about 900 spp., lies entirely within the N. American grassland formation. Prairie spp. comprise about 40% and more or less cosmopolitan spp. about 15% of the total flora. The remaining 45% are extraneous spp., relicts and pioneers: 20% immigrants from the e. deciduous forest; 15% relicts of the northern coniferous forest; and 5% each, from the Rocky Mts. and from the deserts of s.-w.
