Flowering periods in the gynodioecious speciesGingidia decipiens(Umbelliferae)

Abstract

Flowering periods of hermaphrodite and female plants of Gingidia decipiens are described. Hermaphrodite and female plants begin flowering at about the same time, but hermaphrodite plants reach peak flowering later and finish flowering later. It is suggested that the slightly different flowering patterns of the two sexes result from selection for fertilisation of all ovules in females and the need for fruit maturation before seasonal limitations apply.
