INTRAVENOUS INJECTIONS

Abstract
The solutions injected included: (1 and 2) 0.9% and 3% NaCl solutions, (3 and 4) 6% and 20% glucose, (5) 6% gum acacia, (6) 6% gum acacia and 20% glucose in normal saline, (7) blood serum, and (8) whole blood. The solutions were injected con tinuously, usually at the rate of 10 cc. per kgm. body wt. per hr. for 4 hrs. Determinations were made before, during and after the completion of the injections. In the exps. in which the blood pressure remained at es sentially the normal level, there was no loss of protein from the blood stream associated with the injection of the various solutions. In the exps. in which there was a temporary or protracted decline in the blood pressure the introduction of each of the solutions was associated with the loss of large amts. of protein from the blood stream.
