Abstract
Several recent studies have attempted to establish a connection between the Eurasian snow cover, the Indian monsoon and the El Niño/Southern Oscillation phenomenon. In this study, available data of the last 24 years have been used to examine the interrelations among these three important large‐scale atmospheric features. The study further explores the role of the Eurasian snow cover and the Indian monsoon in initiating an El Niño event in the eastern equatorial Pacific.
