ORGANOPHOSPHORUS INTERMEDIATES XI.1PREPARATION AND STEREOCHEMISTRY OF P-PHENYLATED 1,3-DIPHOSPHOLANE, 1,3- AND 1,4-DIPHOSPHORINANES, 194-DIPHOSPHEPANE AND 1,5-DIPHOSPHOCANE2

Abstract
The eponymous 5-, 6- and seven-membered diphosphorous heterocycles have been prepared by alkylating diphosphides with α, ω-dihalides and separated into stereoisomers. One isomer of the 1,5-diphosphocane has been obtained by reduction of the dioxide with trichlorosilane. Stereochemistry is assigned on the basis of 1H, 13C, 31P nmr, infrared and mass spectral studies and the X-ray structure of the trans-1,4-diphosphorinane. Thermal inversion studies on the 5-, 6- and 7-membered heterocycles are described.
