Relation of Thyroid Status to Nitrogen Excretion Following Exposure to Thermal Radiation.

Abstract
Burned hyperthyroid rats (thyroid, 0.5% of diet) excreted 50% more urinary N than did unburned hyperthyroid animals. Euthyroid burned rats excreted 131% more urinary N than did their pair-fed controls. Urinary N of burned hypothyroid rats (thiouracil, 0.5% of diet) was only 18% greater than that of hypothyroid controls. Results indicate protein catabolism in the post burn state to be closely related to thyroid status.
