THE NATURE OF MAGNESIUM TETANY

Abstract
The lesion responsible for the symptoms of Mg tetany appears to be located in the central nervous system, probabh'' in the midbrain or pons. rather than in the peripheral neuro-muscular system. The evidence supporting this is that an auditory stimulus is most effective while an electrical stimulus is ineffective in inducing convulsions. There is an increased sensitivity to the convulsant action of the midbrain drug, picrotoxin. Also sub-anesthetic doses of Na amytal protects against convulsive seizures, but curare does not.
