A Meridic Diet for Trogoderma glabrum and Other Dermestid Beetles1

Abstract
A meridic diet, developed for Trogoderma glabrum (Herbst), contains lactalbumin, glucose, fructose, cholesterol, the McCollum-Davis no. 185 salt mixture, linoleic and linolenic methyl esters, and 11 vitamins. Criteria used to determine optimal source and concentration of each nutrient were the weight of larvae and pupae and the incidence of pupation. Characteristics of growth on meridic and oligidic media were compared for other Trogoderma (5 species), Anthrenus, Attagenus (2 species), Dermestes, and Thylodrias. For most species tested, growth was improved on the newly developed diet. Contrary to previous reports, adults of Trogoderma were observed to feed.This publication has 5 references indexed in Scilit:
