The Medaka (Oryzias latipes). A Commentary and a Bibliography

Abstract
A summary is presented of the most important attributes of the medaka (Oryzias latipes), from the standpoint of its usefulness as a laboratory animal. Since the medaka is by far the most popular fish for laboratory use in Japan, the bibliography presented here gives a fair idea of the extent of Japanese work in such areas as fish physiology (sensu stricto), embryology, genetics and behavior.
