Differential first-trial procedures and discrimination learning performance.

Abstract
Four groups of naive rhesus monkeys were tested on a series of six-trial object-quality discrimination problems. The groups differed in terms of the nature and significance of the incentive on the first trial of each problem. The results showed that confirmation and subsequent reward of an initial preference leads to rapid discrimination learning. Reversal of an initial response becomes increasingly proficient with extensive training.
