Effect of Inunction of Alpha Estradiol and of Oral Medication with Pregneninolone upon Postmenopausal Human Uterus

Abstract

6 postmenopausal [female][female] were treated with synthetic estradiol by inunction and pregneninolone orally. An avg. of 45 to 60 g. of estradiol ointment, containing 45 to 60 mg. of the hormone, and 1000 to 1200 mg. of pregneninolone was used. A proliferative reaction was produced in the endometrium in all 6 cases following estradiol inunction. Following the combined administration of estradiol by inunction and pregneninolone orally, 4 of the 6 cases showed definite secretory changes in the endometrium. All meno-pausal symptoms disappeared during the course of treatment. 5-10 wks. after cessation of treatment menopausal symptoms recurred. All patients bled 1-3 days after cessation of treatment.
