Observations in the Salt River Valley, Arizona during 1953 indicated that cantaloup production can be increased by placing honey bees near the crop. Cantaloup fields with approximately half a colony of bees per acre produced an average of 50% more melons than fields without colonies of bees in the visible vicinity. Greater production resulted from more plants participating in the yield.
