Abstract
The method of the spread, of L. enriettii was studied in detail. Evidence indicates that lymph nodes present a nearly perfect barrier to migration of L. enriettii. the causative agent of cutaneous leishmaniasis in the guinea pig. The lymph system, therefore, can not act as the pathway of spread throughout the body. The blood system is the real pathway of distr., both of free leishmanniae and of those contained in macrophages. Parasites reaching the extremities leave the capillaries and set up local metastatic foci of infection, concentrated primarily in the bone marrow. Elsewhere the parasites seem unable to get a successful foothold in the tissues. Keywords
