The Cultivation of the Small Race of Endamoeba histolytica with a Single Species of Bacteria

Abstract
By means of the micro-isolation technique cysts of the small race of E. histolytica occurring in a human stool were isolated free from bacteria and seeded into tubes of Locke-egg medium with a fresh inoculum of a single sp. of bacterium, organism t. The avg. diam. of the cysts was 7.3 [mu] and that of the amoebae in the ensuing cultures 7.6 [mu]. The cultural characteristics were the same as those of the large race in association with the same bacterium. With cultures of the small race means are provided for studying problems in antigenicity and for answering questions as to racial stability.
