Arylamine co-ordination complexes. Part I. Nickel(II) complexes containing uni- and bi-dentate o-phenylenediamine and 4-methyl-o-phenylenediamine

Abstract
Nickel(II) complexes containing 2, 3, 4, or 6 molecules of o-phenylenediamine and some new complexes of 4-methyl-o-phenylenediamine with 3, 4, or 6 diamines present have been characterised by magnetic, infrared, and electronic spectral, thermal analysis, and X-ray powder photograph measurements. The complexes with either 2 or 3 ligand molecules contain bidentate diamine, the 4 : 1 complexes appear to contain both uni- and bi-dentate diamine, whilst only unidentate diamine appears to be present in the 6 : 1 complexes. Criteria for the detection of unidentate diamine based on CN and NH infrared stretching bands are discussed.
