RELATIVE RATES OF ABSTRACTION OF HYDROGEN FROM PROPANE AND n-BUTANE BY ATOMIC HYDROGEN

Abstract
The activation energy for the abstraction of hydrogen from n-butane by atomic hydrogen was found to be approximately 1 kcal mole−1 smaller than for the analogous reaction with propane. The A factor is smaller by a factor of two. The A factors are discussed in terms of activated complex theory.
