A PROCEDURE FOR ADSORBING VIRUS NEUTRALIZING ANTIBODIES ON PAPER DISKS

Abstract
A method of adsorbing and drying antibodies on paper disks was developed for serological work. It eliminated many of the problems, such as bacterial spoilage, chemical denaturation or breakage of glass vials, associated with handling and shipping of fluid serum samples. Neutralizing antibodies for vesicular stomatitis virus were adsorbed on blotting paper disks by dipping the disks in the serum then drying them in air. The antibody eluted when the disk was immersed in a dilution of virus and could be detected by inoculation of the mixture into embryonating eggs.
