Abstract
Mercurimetric titration of chlorides is a very suitable method for clinical use when performed in unbuffered solns. Expts. on the influence of pH on the result of analyses revealed that only between pH 1.0 and 2.4 can reliable values be obtained because the end product HgCl2 is not completely undis-sociated over the whole pH range. Above pH 4.8 the indicator diphenylcarbazone has no sharp endpoint The Hg-binding capacity of serum proteins is negligible in the pH range mentioned.
