Abstract
Of the patients admitted as acute cases to the Burns Unit, Copenhagen, during the period 1961-1968 one-quarter developed clinical infection and one-quarter had bacterial contamination without exhibiting infection. Of patients transferred after treatment in another hospital three-quarters were clinically infected. The year-by-year variations in the infection rate are discussed and the relation between infection rate, patient age, and area of burn are tabulated for superficial and deep burns respectively. The infection rate in burns of specific sites in analysed.
