Abstract
In an attempt to determine whether the increase in plasmacellular reticulum and plasma cells in the bone marrow produced by active sensitization and anaphylactic shock might occur in the absence of active antibody production, 6 young adult albino rabbits were passively sensitized to and shocked with egg white. Study of bone marrow biopsies obtained serially before and after sensitization and 8, 24, and 96 hrs. following anaphylactic shock revealed no significant changes in the plasmacellular reticulum or plasma cell content. Neither the mere presence of sensitizing antibody nor factors secondary to anaphylactic shock per se accounts for the bone marrow plasma cell formation following active sensitization and anaphylactic shock.
