Abstract
Ontario is attempting a radical change in the way it approaches health and health policy. Aninte, sectoral Premier's Council on Health Strategy was formed in late 1987, comprising Cabinet Ministers and representatives of the community. Council's work has been much influenced by the Health for All Movement. Health goals have been officially adopted by the province, and some have been converted to objectives and targets. The Council has published policy documents on health services, devolution of services to the local level, and healthy public policy. Some momentum was lost during a change in government in 1990 and the Council has now been replaced by a new Council with a broader mandate. There appears to be a good chance that the Council's work will significantly affect the new government's policy.
