On the approximation of multiple input-multiple output constant linear systems†

Abstract

The approximation of multiple input-multiple output constant linear systems by a lower order system is considered. A set of mathematically concise algebraic necessary conditions for such an approximation is derived which minimize a weighted least squares criterion. A number of examples illustrate the procedure.
