Gauge Model for the Pion Mass and theρ′Vector Boson

Abstract

We propose a gauge model which realizes the pseudo-Goldstone idea for the pion, and we calculate its mass. We find ${m_{\pi }}^2$ as a function of the $\rho$ and $A_1$ masses and the mass and coupling constant of a new vector meson, which we tentatively identify as the recently discovered ${\rho }^{\prime }$ vector boson. In our model, chiral symmetry is broken by the absence of the axial-vector partner of the ${\rho }^{\prime }$.
