Abstract
An aqueous soln. of NaOCl with an estimated conc. of 1% of free Cl was used for the disinfection of corn grains. Treatments of 1/2-5 hrs. were employed. The longer treatments resulted in reduced germination, but greatly increased the effectiveness of the treatment in rendering the grains free from microorganisms. Sterilization for an intermediate length of time when accompanied by a suction-injection treatment gave the most complete disinfection.
