Studies on Platelets. XVI. Glutamic Oxaloacetic Transaminase Activity of Human Platelets.

Abstract
These observations were prompted by the finding of greater activity of glutamic oxaloacetic transaminase in human blood hemolysates than in human serum. This suggested the presence of the enzymes in the formed elements of the blood. Studies of the enzymatic activity of platelets were carried out which have given the following results: (1) platelets are a source of glutamic oxaloacetic transaminase in human blood; (2) the enzyme is an intimate constituent of platelets. Its main source appears to be a water soluble fraction of platelets after separation of lipoids by ethyl ether.
