Some modifications for the laboratory rearing of Glossina austeni Newst.

Abstract
Three modifications of the method of Nash and co-workers for rearing Glossina austeni are described: a plastic cage which permits efficient rearing of the flies singly or in small numbers; a pupal container, constantly illuminated by a low wattage bulb, which provides a high effective emergence when the colony is maintained in an incubator; the feeding of the flies on alternate days. Results are presented which show that these modifications allow efficient rearing of G. austeni.
