Factors affecting the intramuscular absorption of cefuroxime

Abstract
Two volunteer studies were carried out to investigate the effects of site of injection, sex of subject and mobility on serum levels of cefuroxime after intramuscular injection. In males, no difference was seen after thigh or buttock injection but females absorbed cefuroxime more slowly after injection into the buttock. When the volunteers exercised, higher peak serum levels were observed than when they rested. However, the differences observed in these two studies are not considered to be clinically important.
