Abstract
Employing 4 500 cc of precisely suspended 20% weight/volume barium sulfate, large diameter tubing, and a retention enema tip, the author completely fills the small bowel in a retrograde manner to find extremely small lesions. This new procedure is an adjunct to the methods available for investigation of acute and chronic small bowel disease. Complete reflux small bowel enemas can determine and quickly localize total or partial bowel obstruction, and they are time-saving and accurate. As in other methods, improvement in technic, ease of examination, and accuracy in diagnosis develop with experience on the part of the examiner.
