A Cause of Venous Thrombosis in Surgical Patients and a Method to Anticipate its Occurrence

Abstract
From a comparative investigation in several groups of patients with different diseases it was found that a predisposition to postoperative and post-traumatic thrombosis was mainly due to a reduced fibrinolytic activity combined with immobilization. The reduced fibrinolytic activity seems to depend on an exhaustion of the available quantity of activator. A method is described for the means of obtaining some impression of the amount of this available activator.
