The role of subjective importance in self evaluation

Abstract
Rosen and Ross (1968) argued that if a score is to be an accurate reflection of a subject's attitudes towards his body and self, that score must take into consideration the relative subjective importance of the aspects being rated. This study extends the work of Rosen and Ross by demonstrating that higher correlations between body image and self‐concept are obtained by using measures which weight the importance of each aspect of the constructs for each individual subject.
