Abstract
Trialkyltin alkoxides, prepared from alcohols and trialkyltin methoxide by azeotropical removal of methanol, are easily oxidized by bromine in the presence of trialkyltin methoxide, a hydrogen bromide captor, to give the corresponding aldehydes or ketones in good yields. Alcohols are oxidized directly in one step to the corresponding carbonyl compounds by utilizing bis(tributyltin) oxide and bromine. Keywords
