THE LIVER LIPIDS IN NORMAL HUMAN LIVERS AND IN CASES OF CIRRHOSIS AND FATTY INFILTRATION OF THE LIVER

Abstract
The livers of 25 nor mal subjects, 25 alcoholic patients and 5 patients with no history of alcoholism but with cirrhosis of the liver were analyzed for their lipid content. The total lipid content of the normal human livers varied from 2.42 to 8.41 gs. %; the avg. total cholesterol was 283 mg. %. Of the 25 alcoholic patients, 13 had liver lipids above 9 gs. %. The total lipids in these cases varied from 10 to 34.8 g. %. The liver lipids were not elevated in the 5 patients with cirrhosis of the liver who were not alcoholics.
